Legal Support for Federal Workers
If you are a federal worker who has been wrongfully terminated from your job or a current federal worker concerned about your employment rights, follow the steps below to access free legal support and resources.
Request Assistance
-
Enter some basic information about yourself and your federal job. We will not share your name or contact information for anything unrelated to the Federal Workers Legal Defense Network.
Once you’ve submitted your information, you’ll automatically receive an email with important information and access to written guides and resources.
-
Many types of legal claims and appeals have deadlines, some as short as 30 days after an action like a termination or reduction in force (RIF). We’ll provide written information after sign-up. Please review that information as soon as you can so you can move on to any necessary next steps, such as filing an appeal of your termination or other job-related action, while we work to connect you with a lawyer.
-
When a lawyer is available, you will receive an email from the Federal Workers Legal Defense Network with their contact information. You should contact the lawyer to schedule your free 15- to 20-minute conversation. Attorneys will be alerted to expect your call or email, and have been advised to respond promptly to schedule your screening. You are responsible for contacting the attorney.
During this initial conversation, the lawyer will determine if the Legal Defense Network can help you and advise on any next steps. The lawyer also can direct you to specific resources that may be helpful in your situation.
-
Depending on the specifics of your situation and the availability of lawyers in our network, you also may be eligible for an additional free consultation lasting up to one hour.
In these conversations, you can discuss what happened to you in greater detail, explore your options, ask any specific questions about forms or documents, or request assistance completing those documents.
Due to the volume of requests, we cannot guarantee that lawyers will be available for either the screening conversation or the consultation before any applicable filing deadlines. We encourage you to use the written resources provided while you wait for further assistance.
-
After your free consultation(s), you are not required to accept any further services from any Federal Workers Legal Defense Network lawyer, and the lawyer you spoke to is not required to offer additional services. If you and the lawyer you speak with during your one-hour consultation wish to work together further, you will need to agree on terms directly with that attorney. Any additional services they offer may be free, at reduced cost, or at their normal billing rate.
